Grace+Peace Church

Client: Gate Davis Consultancy

Grace+Peace is a growing church whose communications hadn’t kept pace with the organization it had become. Working through Gate Davis Consultancy, I first assisted in scoping out a wide-ranging communications audit. Gate led the endeavor, performing stakeholder research and conversations, looking at everything from staff roles and information flow to the experience of newcomers. His central finding was an important one: as Grace+Peace moved from church plant to established congregation, its communications needed greater clarity and maturity without losing the human scale people already loved about the church.

Along the way, I illustrated a set of three weathered trail markers—Formation, Belonging and Service—for a churchwide teaching series. Those markers soon became part of a larger assignment: The Path, a strategic-plan booklet I helped Gate and the church shape and design. The booklet gave a visual and editorial structure to the church’s new pathways, helping people understand how formation, belonging and service could organize ministries, programs and communication. The Path was its own editorial project, but its color and wayfinding language would later provide useful ingredients for deeper identity work.

Since then, Gate has continued serving Grace+Peace as a fractional communications director, and I’ve helped him implement the audit’s findings. Working from Gate’s stakeholder research, I redrew and brought the existing G+P logos into alignment, built out a more useful family of lockups and files, broadened and disciplined the color and typography systems, and developed graphic standards for photography, layouts and day-to-day use. The goal throughout has been giving the organization’s staff enough structure to make good work themselves, consistently, confidently, and without reinventing the system every week.
