METHODIST HEALTHCARE MINISTRIES Methodist Healthcare Ministries
BRAND IDENTITY + ANNUAL REPORT

SERVICES PERFORMED WHILE AT PARALLEL BRAND AGENCY

Broadening the definition of health care.

Methodist Healthcare Ministries serves communities across South Texas through healthcare, grantmaking, advocacy, community partnerships, and a wide range of programs focused on whole-person health. That breadth created an wonderful design challenge for our team at Parallel. The brand had to work at very different scales, from a business card or ad to a healthcare campus, and still feel like the same organization.

Early work included carefully redrawing and refining the existing MHM logo (which itself was based on the now-famous 1970s-era United Methodist Church logo), then tightening the visual standards around it/ A new, broader color palette was defined to support the new colorful work ahead of us. From there, the work expanded into advertising, publications, internal communications, internal-facing posters, and other everyday expressions of the brand.

A particularly extensive part of the brand expression was environmental. I helped design how the MHM identity could live throughout its corporate headquarters, Wesley Health & Wellness Center, and Dixon Health & Wellness Center, thinking through how mission, values, messaging, imagery, color, architecture, and wayfinding should work together in very different spaces. That work extended into a detailed exterior signage package and environmental-graphic specifications intended to give fabricators a clear system to carry forward.

For MHM’s 30th anniversary, we concepted, co-wrote, designed, art-directed, and coordinated production of its annual report, which brought together an unusually broad story: direct care, grantmaking, community health, advocacy, policy, internal culture, and systemic change across South Texas. The book’s transparent outer cover created a simple COMMUNITY / UNITY reveal, while the interior used candid photography, typography, and community voices to make a complex organization feel human and connected.

Across identity, advertising, print, environments, campuses, signage, and storytelling, the work has become an ongoing exercise in brand stewardship: hundreds of individual decisions, large and small, adding up to something that feels more coherent as a whole.
